Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative said the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
